Rain - August 28th & 29th 1976

 


From which we can conclude it rained a lot on the last weekend of August 1976. However I seem to have managed to cycle to an airshow with Nick & Kev on the Sunday, got a puncture, then failed to wait for them to return with a bike pump, which shows a great lack of faith and trust on my part. I have, of course, no memory of this incident and I doubt they do either.

My Records For The Day come from Ken Dodd and The Beatles, which must have something to do with those "40 Years Of TV" programmes they were running at the time.

Action comic eviscerated - 12th & 13th August 1976

Action comic, the British version, is the subject of history books now. It got banned, questions were asked in the house, it was ground breaking, and it lead directly to 2000AD comic the following year. If you've got original copies, they're quite collectible. Not, however, if you cut the picture off the front cover and stuck it in your diary, which is what I've done here. That is an amazing image by Don Lawrence, and I perhaps should have left it where it was, but somehow I thought posterity would prefer it being sliced out and doodled around by me.

Page two of this spread is fun, try turning the page on its side to read it. See, not as easy as you thought. That's why books are better than computers and phones, the end.

My Records For The Day came from Lou Rawls, Dave Edmunds, and Jan & Dean. I was ever eclectic in my tastes. Was I hell as like, I just regurgitated whatever had been on Radio 1 that day.

I Draw Lee Majors - July 28/29 1976

Though I say so myself, that's a pretty nifty drawing of Lee Majors, with me experimenting in ink and wash, aged fourteen. I don't know when I've used ink and wash in the last thirty years, but I doubt I'm that good any more.

I'm on my summer holidays, so me, Mum & Jude are up in Montrose. I think I still have the incredible bundle of comics I bought across these two days, including 4 Classic Comics, Deathlok The Demolisher, and a very rare Batman comic. Rare for me, that is, cos we didn't seem to get DC comics back home and I think I only ever got them when we were up in Scotland. And I remember going to see Earthquake too, though I couldn't tell you much about it.

My records for the day were In Zaire By Johnny Wakelin and Exercise Is Good For You by The Wombles. Classics both.
